Berkshire Bank Supports Youth Leadership

March 24, 2014 by Kim Oliver

We are excited to announce a $10,000 grant award from Berkshire Bank to support Youth Leadership.

IMG_3070Recognizing our alignment to Berkshire Bank’s goal of serving the needs of individuals with low to moderate income through education and community/economic development, Capital Workforce Partners secured this grant as HOYC’s backbone organization. Funding from Berkshire Bank will improve the prosperity of youth, community, and businesses by providing leadership training that addresses challenges and transforms economic liabilities to economic opportunities.

This grant award will help us to empower and develop the skills of up to 15 youth over a one-year period to advocate, advise, and lead solutions for real change.

At the November 2013 Convening, OYN members learned about Aspen’s foundational framework and explored strategies for deepening education and employment pathways for Opportunity Youth.

Aspen team - ko4Representing Hartford were Lee Hunt of Blue Hills Civic Association, Alex Johnson of Capital Workforce Partners, Eileen Peltier of Asnuntuck Community College, Hector Rivera of Our Piece of the Pie, Yanil Teron of Center for Latino Progress, Trish Torruella of the City of Hartford, Andy Tyskiewicz of Community Education of Capitol Region Education Council, and Kim Oliver (HOYC’s Director).
